Renew Your Mind With the Word of God

How do you begin to have God involved in your life?

The first step is to give your life over to Him. Jesus tells us in John 3:3, “I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, that unless a person is born again (anew, from above), he cannot ever see (know, be acquainted with, and experience) the kingdom of God.” Asking Jesus into your heart is the easiest and most important thing you will ever do. Anyone can ask Jesus into his or her heart. The Bible says in Romans 10:13, “For everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved.” The Bible also tells how this can be done in Romans 10:9. “Because if you acknowledge and confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and in your heart believe that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” All you have to do is say something like, “Heavenly Father, I confess with my lips that Jesus is Lord, and I believe that You raised Him from the dead. I ask you to come into my heart. Thank you for becoming Lord of my life. Help me to live my life for You. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.”

If you just prayed this prayer, Luke 15:10 tells us “There is joy among and in the presence of the angels of God over one person who repents.” If you prayed this prayer, you have all the angels in Heaven singing and rejoicing over you.

What is the next step in your walk with God once you have given your life over to Him? Now you need to renew your mind. Romans 12:2 says, “Do not be conformed to this world (this age), (fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs), but be transformed (changed) by the (entire) renewal of your mind (by its new ideals and its new attitude), so that you may prove (for yourselves) what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect (in His sight for you).” How do you renew your mind?

You renew your mind with the Word of God. You get into God’s Word and find out how God thinks. You find out all about His great love for you. You discover how God feels about you, how He treasures you, how He desires good for you. As you read and learn about Him, your mind becomes renewed. You begin to think like He thinks. You begin to act the way He acts. You begin to treat others the way He treats people. You begin to prosper in every way just as He prospers. You become bold and powerful just as He is bold and powerful. You become more and more like Him.

Romans 10:17 says, “So faith comes by hearing, and what is heard comes by the preaching (of the message that came from the lips) of Christ (the Messiah Himself).” When I read the Bible, I read it out loud. If faith comes by hearing, I want to actually hear God’s Word; I don’t want to just see it. I’ve heard it said that we attend to and believe our own words more than we do anyone else’s words. So I speak God’s Word out loud so that I am attending to and believing strongly what is written there. It also helps me to pay attention to what I am reading, and it helps me to understand what is written.

As you renew your mind with the Word of God, you start moving into a place where God can more easily bless you and bring you into the abundant place He has for you. As we learn and grow in Him, our lives become more wonderful and more successful every day. I encourage you to spend time learning who God is and renewing your mind with His Word. God has great things in store for you as you do!
