Good is Evil: Evil is Good (Part 2)

“The thing that has been – it is what will be again and that which has been done is that which will be done again; and there is nothing new under the sun.” (Ecclesiastes 1:9)

In Bible times, God sent Amos to speak to His people. At this time, the people were living in prosperity and enjoying life. They decided they did not need God- they were doing ok without Him.

Sound familiar?

God saw the people misusing justice. I guess maybe their wealth was not enough for them: they wanted to obtain more any way they could. In Amos 5:7 we read, “You who turn justice into (the bitterness of) wormwood and cast righteousness (uprightness and right standing with God) down to the ground.” Verse 14 continues, “For I know how manifold are your transgressions and how mighty are your sins – you who afflict the (uncompromisingly) righteous, who take a bribe, and who turn aside the needy in the (court of the city) gate from their right.”

Sound familiar?

Today we have politicians running for high office who have taken bribes against their own country. Yet they continue on, and people support them. We have godly people being persecuted in ways that ten years ago, we would have considered impossible. Yet people approve of this persecution. The interesting thing is that we all have been given a conscience. We all know right from wrong. You do not need me to voice my opinions of the right and wrong in human matters. You all know what is truth.

Yet many choose to ignore truth and what is right. Scott Wesley Brown sang a Christmas song years ago called “This Little Child”. It is on YouTube. I encourage you to give it a listen. My favorite line is “Fools who march to win the right to justify their sin”. There it is. We all know what is right, but we like our sin. We don’t want to admit we are doing anything wrong. We don’t want to admit we need to change. So we fight. We “fight to win the right to justify our sin”. Problem is, there is always a consequence to sin.

Many times I have heard “why did God cause such a tragedy to take place?” or “where was God when that awful event occurred?” God is not a dictator. He only stays where He is asked to stay. He has given you a free will to choose Him. So what happens when you deny Him and cast Him out of your life?

God does not bring evil on you, but when you deny Him and His presence leaves, it’s an open door for the devil and his cohorts to come in. Throughout history it can be seen that when the people deny God, their society crumbles in every evil way.

Yet God is so forgiving. There is not a person on this earth, no matter what they have done or said against God, whom He will not receive and forgive. His love for each of us is beyond our human comprehension. He desires to bring good to your life. “Seek (inquire for and require) good and not evil that you may live, and so the Lord, the God of hosts, will be with you…Hate the evil and love the good and establish justice in the (court of the city’s) gate” (Amos 5:14,15).

I encourage you to search God out. Look into Him. Find out who He is. Read your Bible. You will find out who God is and how He thinks and what His promises are to you. Talk to Him and listen for His voice. God is talking all the time; we’ve just become too spiritually dense to hear His still small voice. Listening to God’s voice is like learning to ride a bike. It takes some practice.

God wants to bring good to you. He loves you and wants to be your protector and your comfort. He wants to lead you into the amazing life He has planned for you. I encourage you to seek Him out today!
