Does Your Pastor Preach the Bible?

How do you choose a church to attend? It’s pretty easy. Just find one where the pastor preaches the uncompromised Word of God. Then you are good to go. However, this seems to be a more difficult task than it used to be. With people being forced to be politically correct, and with making sure no one is offended, preaching the truth takes more courage every day. I am so thankful I attend a church where my pastor is not afraid to preach the truth found in God’s Word. I am so proud of him and of his wife, who is also an amazing preacher. I know I can trust that what they are teaching is taken directly out of the Word of God. Since the Bible is my life’s manual, I need to hear direction from it.

In Bible times, the preachers were compromising their teaching. They were beginning to say only what the people wanted to hear, not what they needed to hear. God sent Micah into this to wake the people and the preachers up. Evil things were happening in Micah’s day. Micah 2:1-2 tells us, “Woe to those who devise iniquity and work out evil upon their beds! When the morning is light, they perform and practice it because it is in their power. They covet fields and seize them, and houses and take them away; they oppress and crush a man and his house, a man and his inheritance.” Sound familiar? We have people today, breaking into homes and taking what is not theirs to take. We have homes and property being seized. We have people taking for themselves what others have so graciously given to charities.

So where could the people turn in these days? To the pastor? Micah 2:6 tells what some of the pastors were saying, “Do not preach, say the prophesying false prophets; one should not babble and harp on such things; disgrace will not overtake us (the reviling has no end). ” So just like today, people think they can live any way they want and their evil ways will never catch up with them.

We like it when our pastors will have a beer with us. We think it just shows that he or she is one of us. Preachers in Micah’s day were preaching this. In Micah 2:11, “If a man walking in a spirit (of vanity) and in falsehood should lie and say, I will prophesy to you of wine and strong drink, O Israel, he would even be the acceptable prophet of this people!”

The problem is: are these pastors actually helping you? Preaching to you what you want to hear so you never grow in God? Preaching things that will take you farther and farther from what God has for you and wants for you? These days we have pastors preaching that families can live any way they want, but this is not what God says in His Word.  But you don’t need me to tell you this. We all know what is right; we just choose to believe those who lie to us so we can continue to do whatever we want. The problem with this is that you matter so much to God. He never made you to live this way, and He wants life to be so much better for you. He does not see you like this. He sees you as He made you to be, and in Him, you can become all that He has for you.

We have governments and people in authority over us telling us marijuana should be legalized, although doctors in our cities are gearing up for the mass of people they will now be trying to help because of all the mental disorders coming because of this drug. Yet we listen to these people. Do they love us? No. Do they care about us? No. Yet we let them push their agenda on us to our detriment, and we say nothing. God loves you. God cares about you. I would much rather follow what He says about my life. He actually wants me to “prosper in every way and be in health even as your soul prospers” (III John 1:2). We read in I Peter 1:13 that we should have “minds that are alert and fully sober.” This is what God wants for you. I feel sick for these people who are using this drug daily as their lives slowly spiral out of control. God has so much more for them than this.

I encourage you to find a Bible-believing church where the pastor has a backbone and will preach exactly what God tells him or her to preach, no matter what. I encourage you to look into the Word of God and find out how much God loves you and how much He has for your life. My prayer for you is that you seek God out. He is always ready and available to all who look for Him. I pray God’s Blessing over you today!
